Charles and Vera went to grade school at the Station Gulch School 6 miles south and 2 miles east of Strasburg, District 32-Byers from 1917 thru 1925 and later attended school in Strasburg, Colorado. Hal attended school in Byers and later in Bennett where he graduated. Charles, while attending school in Strasburg, worked at the Strasburg Drug Co. morning and evening hours and holidays. In 1928 he met Anna Haworth (Mills) whose family had moved to a farm northeast of Strasburg from Golden, Colorado. In 1928 Charles went to work in Harry Nordloh's garage and this was the beginning of an auto mechanic career. After spending a hitch in the Army Air Force in the Aleutian Islands and Alaska, after being discharged in 1946, came back to Strasburg to own and operate his garage, overhauling tractors, cars and trucks and doing welding. Charles or "Chuck", as he was called, married Anna in November of 1933. There were no children born to this union. Vera married George Sargent; George worked as an auto mechanic for several years, later moving to Denver and working at the Denver Club until his death. Vera then married Richard Rice and they reside in Denver. Hal, after spending the World War II years in the CBT Theater, came back to Colorado and married Francis Hess of Bennett. He worked for several years with Public Service of Colorado. They reside in Salida, Colorado, he is now retired. They have two sons, Robert G. and William R., both of Denver , Colorado, two grandsons and one granddaughter. After grandfather P.V. passed away, George and Svea managed the Lindfors Estate until 1944. During the depression years of the late 1920's through the 1930's, the so called dust bowl years, they lost the land to taxes as dollars were hard to come by. We mined coal along the Bijou and cut wood along the same creek for fuel. My dad and many farmers worked on government W.P.A. building roads, using horses, hand held plows and Fresno's to move the soil. Some say they spent more time leaning on shovels, but when it was all said and done they did improve road conditions. George and Svea moved to Denver in 1944 and managed the Sherman Street Apartments. George worked at the U.S. Mint for several years and then at the Regent Hotel until it closed due to inter-city expansion. George then retired at age 80 years and passed away June 6, 1961. Svea passed away April 9, 1964 and both are buried in Byers Cemetery beside Per V. and Anna Lindfors. Chuck worked in the auto and tractor repair business from 1929 until 1987 at which time he sold his business and retired. He and Anna reside in Strasburg, Colorado." |

Vera was a very nice lady, kind and compassionate and loving. She loved to cook, crochet, sew, she made a lot of her own clothing. She enjoyed music, reading, going to the symphony and plays. When she was young she worked in a gift/candy store, but she was mostly a house wife. Her first husband was George Sargent and he passed away in 1974 of a heart attack. Not long after she met and married Richard Rice. Vera developed Alzheimers and Parkinson Disease and passed away in 1993. Click here to read Veras obituary!
